Coming this Holiday season....Microsoft's answer to Wii's Miis will be "Avatars"

why do they have to keep this idea stealing ?? i hope is just a rumor or else microsoft will lose all respect i had for them >_>

They'll give back Miis/Avatars when Nintendo gives back Nintendo Wifi Channel (XBL), VC (XBLA), and puts their games back on cartridges. :P :lol

Ew. I do not like this idea. =/

Oh, and also. What really pisses me off is the fact that you will probably HAVE to switch to these stupid-looking 'avatars'. I love my gamerpics and I do not want them to go to waste. I paid for the lot that I have.

I dont think its idea stealing as the Wii Mii idea could be taken off of the idea of the 3D avatars that have existed online.

It doesnt matter anyway as for 360 owners it is just an additional benefit to them, wouldnt you want an additional feature added? It isnt even like people bought a Wii only for the sole sake of having a Mii with limited outfit options and customization.

true that :lol. but that was nintendo's idea and they announced that from the beginning of the wii development.... now microsoft (who didn't consider the wii a next-gen console) is taking their ideas... that's just sinking low after what they said to the wii, they are now a) making a motion controler and b)making avatars? i know companies take ideas from others but is bad when they take them after saying "heh we are better than them" don't you think? is like admitting they need to catch up with the wii.

I agree about the gamerpics, Mai and I have a lot and it all had to be purchased. My personal picture is one I took with the cam, but we still have a lot of paid-for content that will probably be unusable.

However, I am interested to see how the avatars work out. Just mad I had to pay for something that won't be supported any more.

Perhaps they'll make it so that if you don't want to upgrade, you will still be allowed to use the pics. I know I will be fired up if I cannot.

I dont believe they would fully take away the gamer pics, everyone (including myself) that has paid for them will most likely be pissed if they wasted the money. But hey, they screwed everyone who bought the HD DVD drive so......

Mmm, the market screwed anyone who bought the HD-DVD drive. Really anyone who bought it before there was a clear winner did it to themselves, knowing their choice still had a chance to fail.

Nintendo didn't invent the idea or custom avatars, and Microsoft is copying no one.
So, the person who came up with the idea wasn't thinking of Miis at all? Doubt it.

Nobody is claiming that Nintnedo invented the idea "or" custom avatars. They were one of the first of this gen to utilize it on a console, though, and as such one can see from a limited scope that Microsoft is using that idea as well.

But is it hurting anyone here that they're using it? Is it causing emotional pain? I mean..I see this as flattery for Nintendo.

It's clearly meant as competition.

When it's a different thing, no, but when it's just a rip-off like this, why?

So that Xbox 360 users who want an avatar that's more "Mii"-like can have one. Why did Nintendo create the Nintendo Wifi Channel? It wasn't because they were explicitly trying to rip-off Xbox Live, it's because they wanted to provide their customers with a feature their competition was providing. It's no different here.
