Merrill Lynch- PS3 Delayed until 2007, price in the neighborhood of $900

This is an interesting bit of news. Merill Lynch is usually pretty good with this kinda stuff. How do you think a 2007 launch with that price tag would go for Sony?
 
I think the $900 tag will hurt Sony bigtime. I personally expected the price to be about the same as the 360. But at $900, I won't even look at it when it hits the shelves...
 
Yeah, same here. I mean, You could buy three 360's for that price, or two premium 360's.

But I think the delay is going to hurt them even more, because that means people who want next gen but figured they would wait past the 360 into 2006 for the PS3 now are faced with the prospect of having to wait longer for a much more expensive console. In short, the delay to 2007 (if it is true) may hurt them worse than the high price tag. I know there are people out there who would probablly buy the PS3 at any cost, and be there in line at midnight to do it, but the game industry depends alot more on casual gamers with budgets on their mind than hardcore gamers .

I don't think there'll be a $900 price tag. Everywhere else when Sony's been interviewed has kept the price under wraps or at least said they want to have it around where the 360 is.

I know what you mean X2. Plain nuts!! And if they sell it for way less and take a huge loss, they might as well hang it up. Because they'll have to sell millions upon millions of games to break even.
 
Yeah. The 360 costs MS around $125 per unit they sell, which isn't very bad since the cost of the hardware is pretty low.

If they hope to compete in pricing, they will lose huge amounts of cash. True, the PS3's price hasn't been officially announced, but almost all reports that aren't from Sony seem to indicate its going to be high.
 
This stuff is getting crazy. But it seems feasible. Sony has said that for sure it's going to come out this year but they didnt mention which region but it's safe to assume it's to the Japanese/Asian market first.

No offense..... that sucks. I don't care how good the system is. but you are righ though.... Merill Lynch is pretty good with this stuff.

If it comes out in 2007.... I don't know what to think.... maybe the Ps2 will just compete with the rev and 360 :lol

Hahaha :lol Yea I don't think MS would complain about this news. I guess maybe Sony should listen to the market a little better; alot of us thought $400 for 360 was high, take a hint Sony. And the way I see it, what could they possibly offer in this console that would make me cough up an extra $500 for it over a 360? I won't get too crazy yet but man if this is real that would make me say screw Sony, forever.
 
Yea, as a Sony fanboy, I'd have to say I'd lose 100% respect for Sony. I'd rather just buy a computer specifically for gaming if the price is gonna be that high. If people did that, they'd just be helping Microsoft over Sony.
 
I find it difficult to believe that the price would be $900. They would price themselves right out of the market. It had better be MIGHTY good for that kind of money. I'm thinking the games should be real :lol
 
They would price themselves out of the market. But, they might be going for a you get what you pay for style. You shell out $900 and you get a heap of junk beastly gaming machine.
 
Yea really, $900 and half a year later the drive fails. Not so easily replaceable at those prices. Better come with a standard 3-4 year warranty.
 
I don't believe it one bit. PS3 will not be that price. If it was going for that price they would have closed down the project due to the loss of buyers/consumers. It might be more expensive than 360, but only by 100-200 dollars. What use is a system only a few will buy and not the many?

Would anyone here buy the Ps3 for that much... honestly?
