Memory card corruption?

I was going to buy a friend's "Game Shark" for the Gamecube,but I remember someone telling me that it can corrupt your memory card.Is this true,because the one I had for my PS2 never hurt my memory card,or was I just lucky?

I've never heard of GameSharks ruining memory cards at all...could be a possibility though I guess. :-\

It can corrupt your save files if you don't know what you're doing. But I've never had it actually happen to me.
