Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Mario Vs. Donkey Kong: Mini's March Again! was recently released on the DSi's download service called, "The DSiWare".
This third game in the series is actually a revamp of Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2. So bluntly we'll refer to this as "MVDK2.5" So if anyone listened to EGA Podcast 39 recently, my apology for calling it, "Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 3".
I'm impressed Nintendo was able to re-release a former DS game in full download format. Now I personally have never been able to play the previous two games on DS and GBA, but I was a loyal fan of the original Gameboy classic, "Donkey Kong" from 1994. Which had a similar premise and game play scenario.
The puzzles do remind me of the ladders, bridges, barrels, and such from the classic GameBoy title, "Donkey Kong". However, since there is a touch screen, you pretty much are the puppet master when you have to guide your mini-Mario'ss across each level.
Biggest downside I've heard from fans of MVDK2, was this time around, you cannot touch or pick up the mini-Mario's once they are in motion. Which adds an edge to the challenge to make you think quicker. You go through the various worlds and learn new tricks for your Mini-Mario's to overcome these obstacles.
Biggest favorite of mine so far, is you can create and build your own unique level. Which games like "Mega Man Powered Up" on PSP offered for example. Nintendo even gives you the opportunity to post them on their Wi-Fi network online or even locally. So anyone here on EGA or anywhere in the world with your friend's code can share the levels you made or you can grab a specially made level submitted by random people. However, I'm not sure if this feature was already in the former MVDK2.
Price wise? 800 DSiPoints. Which is $8 actually, so for a full DS game with some minor tweaks was perfectly fine by me or probably anyone.
In conclusion, if you loved Mario Vs. Donkey Kong on GBA or the DS game, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. Please buy this DSiWare. It's one of the better titles out there at the moment on the online store compared to Dr. Mario or WarioWare Snapped!
Until then, let the Mini-Mario's March!
