Maybe God Gives Us Examples

Hi All,

Late last night I was watching some videos on CMT,and it got me to thinking.I know people who have their own band that use the garage for a place to jam. Some of these boys have been doing it for a long, long time and never getting anywhere,no gigs to make money, nothing. What interests me is this.

These boys I speak of are no slouches, they love what they do and spend 5-6 hours every day, with certain exceptions,to have fun and maybe get good enough to make a couple of bucks at the local bar. Some of these bands,as I mentioned earlier have been doing it a long time, even more than some of the professional bands making lots of money and getting exposure all over the world.

This being the case, don't you think that the boys jamming in the garage day in and day out even longer than the above mentioned "Professionals" did before they became famous deserve the same success? Some would say that the reason bands like "Guns&Roses" for example, got to where they did because of their dedication, they had better and more opportunities than the boys in the garage, maybe their family had connections to the music industry,or perhaps they are "Gifted" as some would say.

The boys in the garage were just as dedicated, they worked harder and longer than "Gun's&Roses"(Once again,I'm only using "Guns&Roses" as an example, nothing to do with their personal history.)So why haven't the boys in the garage gotten their record contract?

My belief is that God mapped out their destiny before they were born on Earth to serve as an example as to just how much the human spirit is truly capable of.I think it also works the same way with "Sports"-i.e. Michael Jordan,"Art"-i.e. Da vinci or "Nature"-i.e. David Suzuki.

That's just my thought on the issue, take it for what it's worth.

Why would you want to believe that?  Why would you want to believe that God removes any notion of free will from these people?  More to the point, you simply cannot map out the lives of a single person if you have several billion other lives that haven't yet been pre-determined.  No man is an island, and the billions of people whose lives haven't been mapped out would all affect these people in ways God couldn't predict, so God would have to pre-determine their lives, to ensure the other people's lives go according to plan.  If this is indeed the truth, then free will (even an illusion of free will) is an impossibility, which makes me wonder why God would hold us accountable for our sins, or even create us in the first place.

I don't intend to offend you with this post, but I truly find the idea of a God who would take away free will to be a rather saddening prospect.  I certainly wouldn't want to believe in that kind of God.

Again, no offense intended.  Just giving my $0.02, and this isn't meant as a personal attack or anything. :)

Hi Homicidal!

No offense taken at all,I am a very open minded person.I make posts like this for learning and getting other people's take on certain subjects which ultimately, leads me to a better understanding of God.You make very good points Homicidal, and I welcome them.Sometimes I think God wants us to just make an attempt to understand His word as opposed not trying at all.

Thanks again man,

I feel that we live in a material universe that does not have chance anywhere in its make up, but it is built with a system that has a freedom for variety. This "freedom for variety" determines our genetic makeup. I think that we all are designed with a totally free will and that our lives are built around the choices that we make. And in such a system we have an effect and an influence on each other. In such a system there is personal responsibility.

Just my 2 cents worth. :)
