The last thing Mass Effect needs is a movie. One of the big reasons Mass Effect is cool is because it's all about choices. When you're watching a movie, you don't have that, therefore it's just a generic scifi movie that's a "meh" at best. You won't care about the characters, because you're not interacting them. I guarantee that you probably wouldn't like or care about Tali at all if you didn't get to interact with her in the game.
Even so, I would think Hollywood learned it's lesson after the Super Mario Bros. movie, but obviously they haven't. I'll probably laugh when this bombs in theaters, and then watch it on DVD and laugh at how terrible it bombs.
