I heard that the next Mario Party doesn't even use a controller. :o

If that's true, I wonder if they are going to make an EyeToy type thing and use that instead.

I found this article......

June 09, 2004 - Nintendo's latest investors' conference in Japan was full to the brim with vague references about network play, the new Revolution console and, surprisingly, Mario Party 6.

We know, we know -- how can a game that has a "6" in its title be on the receiving end of any sort of vague reference? The reference is to the means of control for the game. In referring to the game, Nintendo hinted (vaguely) at a new controller that would allow even unskilled players to play.
"In the past, there have been people who have felt controllers are hard to deal with and did not play games, but this (game) will seek to appeal to those people," said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.

And that's it. No further details were given.

The company has been promising a new peripheral of some sort for GameCube, so perhaps this is it. Or perhaps Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and his assembled crew of suits were just referring to the standard GameCube controller, only you use it in new ways, like holding it upside down as you play or using your big toe to press the A button (finally!). We're not sure.

Stay tuned for continuing coverage as Iwata begins to show hints of his Jedi mind skills.

I'm sorry, did I hear skill and mario party mentioned in the same freggin article???!?!?

My favorite thing about mario party was the lack of skill needed to play! I could only ever get girls to play games like Mario party and Worms because they were already so simple...... And when I say girls I mean the majority that think that video games are a stupid waste of time and the reason their boyfriends don't spend every waking second worshipping the ground they walk on! I've met some cool ones that have been like "omg disgea is so funny" but the majority have been more like "jeezzz what's a halo....... OH YOUVE GOT MARIO PARTY?!?"

I think a mario party controller would be cool though.... especially if it was a "more intricate" controller with a ton of buttons.

Think of the button mashing games they could do :o seriously.... think of the insanity of button combo's...etc.. they could do for games!!

Mario Party 6 uses a MICROPHONE

August 26, 2004 - It's been a big day for Nintendo. Not only has the company revealed never-before-seen screen shots of some of the hottest upcoming games, but it has also released its official holiday lineup. Well, here's a little more news from the big N.

Earlier today, Nintendo confirmed that Mario Party 6 will employ a microphone, settling a prolonged bout of speculation. Nintendo fans have been spouting rumors across dozens of message boards ever since Nintendo publicized its desire to introduce a new peripheral to the marketplace. Fans entertained all sorts of ideas, the most bizarre of which saw Nintendo releasing a re-vamped Power Glove.

Well, it's not a Power Glove. It's a microphone. That's right, it looks as though you'll need to talk your way to succeeding in Mario Party 6, the latest installment in the popular Mario Party series. While details remain scarce, we do know that Nintendo has implemented the new peripheral (at least partially) to make the game more accessible to non-gamers. We also know that the usual roster of Nintendo favorites will be back, including: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Daisy, Bowser, Boo and Koopa Kid. Not to mention Waluigi.

Mario Party 6 boasts 75 all-new mini-games, six new game boards and, of course, the Nintendo GameCube Mic. Plus, there's a new day and night system giving the different boards and mini-games two different modes. Boards will transform, mini-games will play differently and hidden characters will emerge according to the time of day.

We'll be back with more just as soon as Nintendo coughs it up.
