Mario and pals make another "EA Sports" Cameo...

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
http://www.the-magicbox.com/0509/game050901b.shtml

The GameCube verison of "SSX on Tour"....features Mario...Luigi...and Princess Toadstool...much like NBA Streets Vol. 3

Okay Mario...you're really milking the cash cow...

Normally I would agree that it's a cash cow, but this isnt made by Nintendo. Its just cameos. Like Link with Soul Caliber. So I would have to disagree with your statement.

Oh is it now? Bring up the number of copies of Soul Calibur 2 sold...and tell me which one was the highest on which platform. Then I'll ask "Wanna know why?" and then I'll say "Name brand loyalty" LINK was the biggest reason for the GameCube verison by far..It was a marking scheme that did insanely well....

And so Mario enters yet another sport.

It won't be long before the Decline series is right. Mario does the weekly shopping.

EXTREME IRONING!!

But who's decision was it to put link in the game? It's not like he was the only cameo in the game. Every other system got their exclusive character, they just so happen to be not as popular as link. Plus Link is more designed for that kind of game.

Nintendo's decision. Nintendo and many other companies always try this approach over the years. Which I like to call "We got something you don't"

Sony and Nintendo have had a history of decisions like this to make a games "unique" by just adding their own style to it, to make the competition look bad.

What? To make the competition look bad? More like just trying to appeal to more people who are familiar with the characters. And I didnt know it was Nintendo's decision, im going to look into that.

If the company approaches you and offers to add something, they call the shots.

It's all about the competition by far, because they know it will appeal to the public.

Why else do you see Soul Calibur 3 on PS2 only?? Sony was ticked that they were in 3rd place for Soul Calibur 2 sales...now they dished out enough money to make sure nobody else gets it!

But thats something different entirely. All im saying is that EA is making SSX, it includes Mario but it isnt a mario game like Mario Tennis. See that I can see as milking the mario franchise but when its just cameos I dont see why people would complain. Its not like you're forced to use him.

It's another form of advertising. And it's a smart move for Nintendo. Mario is the videogame industry's version of Mickey Mouse. And as such Mario is cursed to a "life" of being a posterboy for Nintendo.
I personally think it's funny to see Mario on a snowboard. After all these sports you'd think Mario would get thinner. :lol

No it's not...it's exactly the same thing we just talked about. Namco made Soul Calibur, it included Link. No where did I state it was a Mario game...I called it a cameo, regardless, it's still milking the cash cow because of the appearence of this character. Royalty fees especially.

Actually the ironic part about your statement. Is children around the world are more fimilar with Mario then Mickey Mouse...and that poll was made in 1996....64% of children of the world knew who Mario was...yet did not know who Mickey Mouse was....

Well thats up to Namco to pay, ultimately its their decision because its their game. They dont have to use Mario, but they are. I never said that you said it was a mario game. Im saying that its not milking as say mario tennis.

then why did you say "It does not make it a mario game?" Yet that's not important right now, the thing is, when I say "Milking it", that refers to appearences outside of the main Nintendo line actually....Power Tennis is just part of the normal Mario stream I'd say.

Now when he's in Dance Dance Revolution, that is truly milking it for all it's worth

The DDR version I do agree is milking it since it is purely Mario I believe and no other characters outside of his universe. Cameos dont make it a Mario game, and here im still using the example, like Mario Tennis. That game is purely Mario also. But if you believe they are milking it on this game then thats fine. I just disagree because its EA's decision to have them in the game. Unless in some article it states that Nintendo made them put in the characters.

Ahhhh princess peach looks almost naked :-[ I think i'll wait until gamespot reviews it to see how good it is... it could be promising!

Plus Link is more designed for that kind of game.

Link more designed for a fighting game than Spawn!? Or even Hei Hachi (sp?) a character originally designed for fighting games!? I don't think so...

Third party companies are catching on that unless it has Mario on the cover, its probably going to get looked over by GC owners. It works very well, unfortuneatly Mario has to sell his virtual soul to sell games, but no one seems to care anyway.

What I meant was a game like Soul Caliber that uses swords in it's fighting engine. Not fighting games in general. I agree that Mario gets overused but this is EA's decision. They dont have to use him, nor are players required to use him.

No, Mario is overused when he starts golfing, playing tennis, playing baseball, playing soccer, racing, and making dancing games. Like that will ever happen!

Watch Decline of Video Gaming 3. That shows you the future of Mario games.

"I mean Nintendo has seriously gone too far. I mean, Super Mario Accountancy?"

Thats what Ive been saying all along. Those games are the ones im against. But if it's just a cameo I dont see what's the big deal.
