Actually... I never had played this yet. I did play the Armored Core 2 *I believe* for the PSX.
Sorry I can't help you out with AC for the PSP.

Armored Core for PSP, from what I've heard, is where you build the robot, and send it into test simulations. You don't physically control the robot/mech/giant metal thing, you just choose parts and see how it performs.

I've never played it, so I can't confirm.
