Warriors: Legends of TROY

Koei announced a new action game called Warriors: Legends of Troy, an epic mythological game in which you play as either the Greeks or the Trojans in the age when Zeus Almighty ruled over immortals and men.

Story Background:

Three thousand years ago, a poet sang of heroes strong enough to stand alone against an army. For love, they sailed the world. For family, they made the greatest sacrifices. For honor, they stood and faced the will of gods, And fought a war which shook the earth.

In the age when Zeus Almighty ruled over immortals and men, what begins as a truce between two cities quickly erupts into a massive war that will shake the very foundations of Olympus. Two great armies clash not over home and country, but for the love of a single woman. The fates of these civilizations now stand upon the razor's edge.

Feature:

* Do battle as the Trojans or the Greeks. With two unique storylines, players will see the war from two perspectives. Clash with legions of soldiers on glorious battlegrounds that reach for miles

* An intense combat system lets players grapple with and throw opponents, pick up and attack with a variety short range and long range weapons, charge with shields, and use evasive maneuvers. Online multiplayer coop and competitive play for up to 4 players.

* Additional online features include voice chat, team and individual leaderboards, and more. Among the inspirations for the game is The Iliad, Homer's epic poem from the 9th century BC, however Warriors: Legends of Troy will include more mythological elements than the original source material. Players will annihilate hordes of soldiers, battle larger!than!life heroes and even confront mythical creatures sent by the gods.

I'm diggin' it :)

Looks like a great game for the bloodthirsty type. I wonder if you can combine together with your allies to pull off special combat manoeuvres, like the well known Phalanx.

This is the kind of game I love. Awesome and fast passed close combat styled action, set in the ancient days of vast armies, battlefields and historic battles.

Yet another game sets out to butcher epic poetry...

The game looks beyond violent if the trailer is any indication of the type of violence that will unfold during the game itself. It's almost beyond repulsion at points. There are incredibly vividly depicted scenes of gore in the Iliad, but they tend to evoke a sense of pain, not pleasure, in the reader. I will be shocked if the violence in this game isn't meant to be "fun" because games of this nature try to accomplish just that. I will be more shocked if they are successful in their attempt.

For love, they sailed the world. For family, they made the greatest sacrifices. For honor, they stood and faced the will of gods, And fought a war which shook the earth.

No, no, sort of, agreed. The first two no's worry me, of course, because it makes me wonder just who decided what the definitive motivations for the war (they make no distinction between the historic and fictional) actually were. If copies of the Iliad were sold with each copy of the game and, somehow, reading it through was mandatory before the disc would ever work, then such assertions would be acceptable. As it stands, they are not.

I'm aware of their disclaimer at the bottom which they believe gives them free license to take liberties with the story, characters, themes, expressions, etc., in the poem. I suppose that should be my cue to take a chill pill and not rag on the game so much for being a game. But when dealing with one of the cornerstones of Western civilization, thought, ideology, language, and even beauty, I just don't think any game that admits its going to butcher the text in a disclaimer has any business existing. It was bad enough to see the character of Paris (or what was left of it in the script) portrayed by Orlando Bloom in Troy, its quite difficult to imagine how the character can be reduced still to "+10 bow skill."

On virtually every level, the game is destined to be an insult.

Ow, harsh slam down. But, your words aren't exactly false.

Doesn't sway my decision though, this game will be a great vent after a long days work :lol
