JACT -- Anyone else heard of this?

(Note: Before anyone cries HYPOCRISY, the link is not a referral link and I can't help you sign up; you have to apply to get in because it's invite-only. This was also posted in General Discussion, not PC gaming, because I'm not talking about PC gaming but rather discussing how this website works)

http://www.jact.com

I'll just post their statement about the site:

What if you lived in a world where you were rewarded for the things you do every day?

What if you lived in a world where you were rewarded for getting up each day, taking a shower, or eating breakfast? For driving to work, for grocery shopping, or for watching the evening news? What if you lived in a world where you were rewarded for playing your favorite PC games?
You do.

JACT provides a free service that rewards PC gamers for the games they play every day. Played WoW recently? Or maybe Call of Duty 4 is more your speed. JACT supports over 300 PC games.

I'm curious as to whether or not other EGAers have heard of this site yet. My friend told me about it, and I'm trying to figure out how it works. From what I understand you just download a little program (I scanned it, couldn't find anything wrong with it), and it monitors how long you play PC games and gives you credits for it. It's hard to cheat it, because unless it detects normal gameplay (moving mouse, keyboard pressing), it won't send credits. Anyway, you save up credits and buy real prizes at their JACT store (and they've got some good stuff... there's a 9800GTX in there).

Sounds interesting, right? I've been trying it for a good bit. I've been leery of playing games that require you to input a password, because I just don't know about it. Why are they doing this? How are they getting paid in return? Usually with these things the site earns double what they pay back to you... how would they do that here?

Your thoughts?

Exactly. They have to be making money somehow and I would like to know how before I run to sign up.

That's why I made this topic... I'm searching the site like crazy trying to find out how still...

EDIT: I read an article sent to me that says this:

The JACT service is funded through its initial investors and traditional site-based advertisements as well as a new, innovative product placement method in the JACT Mall. This enables JACT’s advertising partners to target a precise user base and allow for their products and services to be sampled by a growing, interactive gamer community. Sponsors’ products and services are then purchased by JACT users by redeeming the BUX they have earned simply for playing video games.

Anyone here use this yet? I'm curious. It is too good to be true, so it probably is. There HAS to be a catch.

The catch is that they're spying on you. They're watching what games you like to play (and God knows what else they're finding on your computer) in order to find out which products you might not gag on if they shove enough of them down your throat.

Too good to be true? Hardly. Giving up all online privacy (or however much of it remains) to have advertisements and marketing treat you like a giant bulls-eye for the chance to win something? Sounds more like a scam than an offer.
