How times change. While Carmack once said that he couldn't see id developing for the Wii, they've changed their tune somewhat since then. Apparently id is in talks to make an exclusive Wii game.
While the upcoming title might not be a family game, Carmack admitted in an interview with MTV Multiplayer that he spends "far more time playing Wii with my four-year old boy than I do with any other game consoles." So while Rage is "not a viable option" on the Wii, he's still sympathetic to the platform.
Carmack said they've been pitched a title that they think will work well on the Wii, and that it's related to an iPhone title that they're developing. But for the moment, they're focusing on their current projects.
"I'd like to do something there, because I love a lot of what Nintendo has done with the Wii and the DS, but it's just out of sync with the developments that are currently going on at id," said Carmack.
Should they begin developing on the Wii, id would use one of their exciting IPs where they have a "little bit of leverage." With id porting a Wolfenstein mobile game to the iPhone, maybe that game will star B.J. Blazkowicz?
