Have you ever been obcessive over a game?

Like the title says. Have you?
There is a guy in my workplace that is playing, I think, the latest Fall Out game on his computer. He has only gotten eight hours of sleep within the last week. Some nights he has stayed up till 4:30 in the morning. And he has to be at work those mornings. He pumps himself up with no doze and energy drinks. And I don't think he realizes that he could be considered being obsessed. ::D His wife thinks that he is.

I don't ever remember loosing sleep playing a game, though I have spent a lot of hours on one in those early years when I first developed my love for gaming. I do remember those vacations in which I spent the whole time with a game. At the moment I don't even remember the games I did that with. :lol

So has anyone here actually went the route with the obsession thing?

It happens to me sometimes, but more when I was younger. It did happen recently though. I didn't sleep one night playing Sim City 4. I don't know why but Sim city games always hook me.

Not really. I pretty much play games for two reasons: fun and talking to friends who either moved away or I don't know in real life. However, I've had those summers of waking up, playing, sleeping, then repeating. Not recently, though.

Also, all-nighter vocals on Rock Band 3 should be a sport.

There have been a few times that ive been up for 72 hours straight doing nothing but gaming. Then crashing for 26 hours straight.

But that was when i was 14. and i never really slept much then anyway.

I get like that with nearly every game I play, and it just depends on the game how long my obsession lasts. Shorter games like those on the DS I play obsessively for about a week or so. Console games are anywhere from a week to a month to several months. Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, FFXIII, and Halo Reach are games that come to mind most recently.

Think last time I really was was during Highschool. I would pull all-nighters trying to beat ONE song in Ouendan. Also I loved the Yakuza series, when the first two came out I'd beat them within the weekend I bought them. I was so excited for those games.

Nowadays I just don't have the same drive. Like Vanquish and Fist Of The North Star were games I was excited for ever since they were announced and it was hard for me not to import FoTNS. When I finally got them back in October I didn't beat them until December. Which is pretty bad since Vanquish is only like a 5 hour campaign on normal :p

Red Dead Redemption had me hooked for a while. So did Black Ops. I got tired of both, so now I play nothing! Haha.

Nope, I've never had that happen before.

I mean, there have been plenty of game where I played them A LOT for hours on end. However, I've never not slept to play a game. This excludes LAN parties because after the party I would just sleep until noon.

Sadly, no. My attention has been draw away from the games I love and play so much. That it's hard to maintain focus. Reality is dragging me slowly away. I play a game for 5-10 mins and easily get bored now. I was addicted to WoW for a while, but now find myself breaking away from it again. So with my life going in a good direction, I'm hoping to play more Genesis games to get back into the swing of things. Yet, I'm having problems staying focused. :(

Morrowind, Kotor, and Ocarina of Time are really the only 3 games I ever really felt obsessed about. Sometimes I miss that feeling of being SO into a game I forget about reality and anything around me. It's been too long! {hoping the 3DS can bring that feeling again}.

Re: Have you ever been obsessive over a game?

L4D and L4D2, i guess. I usually clock 20 hours a week between the two of them, 500 hours clocked since Jan 2010

Not really obsessive, just something thats always fun and easy to do.

Not sure if you can call it obsessive, since even in my youth I alternated between all the games I owned. But me and my friends used to really love Perfect Dark A LOT. I perfected each hiding spot to use the best weapons, like the FarSight for example. Or learnt how to circumnavigate an entire map using the Manual Guided missile feature.
But I'm not sure you can call that obsessive, or that I like to set challenges to keep games interesting.

Never on a single game I went on a week long gaming bender after I lost my job a few years ago where I was spending about 20 hours a day playing. But that was less obsessive and more of a nervous breakdown.

Well i mean games are a good way to lose your mind you know. When bad stuff happens i usually game to just get away and get my mind striaght and think it out.

Age of Empires II, that game could make you forget about time. I started a game at 3PM-ish and didn't quit until 10PM-ish. I was SO angry that it was so late. Think it was a weekend, though. :P

But really, AoE II could really make you immersed, in my opinion.

Battlefield 2 has made me stay up a bit late before, it's just so fun to talk to all your friends, kill them, take revenge on them, etc, etc. And that game is a masterpiece.

I might try it, thanks. People keep telling me to. :P

My parents wouldn't mind but it would be a bit awkward playing an M rated game all the time. :\
