I highly doubt that this peripheral will turn out to be some kind of online component. I don't even think it would be very profitable at this point in the system's life as there would be very few games to play online, so few that it wouldn't really necessitate online capability. With profit in mind, and having gone on the record many times speaking about the unprofitability of going online, I don't think Nintendo's gonna make the jump to online now...

I thought I saw somewhere (might've been before GC launch) that you could buy either a dialup modem or a broadband connection for the GC?

yes, you can get either of those :)

but supposively this new device will also provide a hard drive...

I'm not really interested in going online, I can do that with my PS2 but choose not too. I still say keep online games for the PC...

same here :)

The only console game I play online is PSO 1/2.... in which I do not mind it in that game.

but online (IMO) is meant *better* for PCs.

Thats not saying that multiplayer consoles is a bad idea... in fact, I like the idea of lan party console play....
especially those that support the broad band adaptor.

The only problem with LAN games is that it's not always convenient to have multiple TV's/systems hooked up in one room. Plus you need multiple copies of the game, 4 controllers per system, etc.

It's worth it, when you can organize it right, but it's a pretty big hassle.

Lan's way too much hassle for me, I still find nothing more fun then a 4 player game personally...(just the right amount of people needed for a multiplayer) but that's me.
