Finally, Someone refuses to be taken over by EA (GO TAKE-TWO!)

Apparently, it didn't take them very long to consider Electronic Arts' somewhat hostile buyout proposal -- Take-Two's Board of Directors just responded to the offer with a press release of their own, stating that EA CEO John Riccitiello's proposal was "inadequate in multiple respects and not in the best interests of Take-Two's stockholders."

While EA's proposal listed Grand Theft Auto IV as a primary reason for the merger, as Riccitiello claimed EA could lend their help during the game's quickly approaching release, Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two's executive chairman, listed GTAIV as the primary reason why they wouldn't want to merge at this point in time, fully expecting to increase their overall value when the game hits store shelves come April 29.

Zelnick's laundry list of reasons why the buyout wouldn't benefit his company can be found on the press release. For now, let us rejoice in the postponement of the seemingly inevitable future where one superconglomerated gaming publisher/developer controls all game releases on the planet.

Man, if I was Take Two's CEO, I would have said something like, "Sorry EA. It just wouldn't work out. It's not you. It's me. I means, I feel I could do so much better."

From the article I read on this, over at Gamespot, Take Two seems fully willing to sell their soul to the gaming devil, but they don't want to negotiate, until after GTA IV is released because they know it'll drive up their stock value, and EA's offer.  This deal could still very well happen.  I hate to think of Bioshock falling into the hands of EA. :-\

Basicallly, they said no because they know EA will come back with a bigger suitcase full of bills. Makes sense to me. A lot of people on GFaqs believe RockStar will seperate from Take 2, should Take 2 sell themselves.

There's a rumor going around that Rockstar is trying to go PS3 exclusive after GTAIV. If EA does buy Take Two and Rockstar stays with Take Two, I doubt that EA would let that happen; they like their multiplatform games too much to keep anything exclusive. That's about the only plus I can see to this deal, though.

so why would Take 2 want to keep GTA exclusive again?

... or want to go back to Sony versus another system?

Well, the only reason they even began to be multiplatform in the first place was because MS paid money. Had they not they probably would still be exclusive right now. Or at least launch their games on the PlayStation first.

Yeah I agree, that doesn't make much sense to me. I think, above all else, Take-Two wants to make money off of the GTA IP, and if an exclusive deal will give them that then that's what they'll do. I don't see why they'd want exclusivity for one system or another just because.

*starts to high five Take-Two*
