Finally broke down and got...

Nova

Boom-shacka-lacka
An 8800 GTS :D

Now all I need is a new Processor and Motherboard to help things move along. An 8800 GTS and a pPentium 4 processor don't exactly work out together.

Yea, I have a Core 2 Duo in mind. Chances are by the time I get one, Quad cores will be all the rage :lol

The thing is, I need a new motherboard too, as my old one is too outdated to run the Core 2 Duo series (even though the slots are both LGA 775).

The 8800 GTS only cost me $280 on Newegg (GO NEWEGG!), which IMO, for the current 3rd best gaming card availiable, is pretty good (until ATI pumps out the X 2xxx series).

Nice deal on that...I still can't afford it, lol.

Screw Quad cores. They're still a few years from becoming really all that useful, considering very few processes utilize all 4 processors.

wont you need more fans to support it?

im not big into building pc's, but i know that with my xbox 360, when a disc is spinning and a lot is being rendered, the fans go crazy and heat just pours out of the back of it

Well, lets see:

1 fan on the power supply, though all computers have one on theirs.
1 over the CPU heatsink
1 on the video card
And 2 exhaust fans on the case (one on the top, and one below the power supply).

Not a lot compared to most enthusiasts, who might have 2 intake fans as well, and much larger then mine.

Generally through the summer heat, I just take the side case off.

Nice purchase! I'm running an amd x-2 6000+ and an 8600gts in this system

The system that is being built slowly is using a c2d + 8800gtx ultra. It's slowly being funded.

I want to finish it by christmas.

MmM Lian Li full cases :D

Don't waste money on an Ultra. There's not that much more performance gained for the huge price increase over the GTX, and a GTX can be volt/BIOS modded into an Ultra anyway.

And while quad-cores aren't fully utilized by most programs, anything that supports multi-core or multi-threading will take advantage of the cores and gain at least some benefit. I love mine, it really helps during render sessions.

Except that the only reason I'm doing this build is to have some high end overpriced hardware in the system. I'm planning on running 2x 30inch monitors. I don't feel like ocing a gpu with a lesser warranty than one I wouldn't have as much to worry about with. Not sure though. with dx10.1 coming out I may wait and see what happens.
