ereaders

I have the cheap $79 Kindle. It is supposed to have commercials, but I do not have Wifi, I have dial-up for my internet service. So they cannot put the commercials on my Kindle. I did not know that until I received it.

First I would like to say, I love having a hard copy of a book. The smell of ink and paper, weight of the book, the feel of holding it in your hands is all a part of the experience in the joy of reading. But there are some books I like that I cannot get in print, but you can get it in ebook form. Plus the mass paperback book is all but dead as more and more publishers abandon the medium for ebooks. The reason being is that the ereaders have taken the place of the mass paperbacks.

I know that was more than you asked for, sorry. I love my Kindle. I presently have 105 books on it. I love old pulp fiction from the 30's and 40's, especially science fiction. I cannot find that stuff in paper form. Plus there are no book stores in my area. There is one used book store but it mostly carries romance novels, not my thing. I would have to drive to another state from my area in order to find a book store, or order on-line. But having my Kindle has made it so easy to find something, download it to my computer then drag and drop onto the Kindle. Maybe too easy.

Having my Kindle has caused me to read a lot more than I normally do. Since Christmas I have read 6 books in my spare time. It is so easy to pick it up and flip it on, read, flip it off. You go through a book in no time at all. Yes I do recommend one if you love to read and don't mind not having a tangible copy of a book. You can keep a whole library with you whereever you go.

That's great, thanks for all the info!! I'm definitely going to get one but I still have quite a few paperbacks to get through, maybe in 6 months to a year. Thanks for taking the time to respond. :)

A friend at work has the kindle fire. I suggest this if you are doing comics, videos, movies, and pictures in addition to reading.

I have the kindle touch monochrome display. If you're going to just read... The monochrome display is best. I love it... It's great. And mine has ads as well... Reviewers seem to love the ads because they've saved money buying some of the stuff. I haven't bought anything from the ads yet... But some of the ads looked decent. How long until they are spam ads? Idk... Hopefully never.

Eh, maybe someday when I actually enjoy reading, which I really haven't in about 7 years. Dunno what I would get but would probably just hop on the iPad bandwagon. Love my iPod touch and iPhone.

They are ok... the Kindle Fire is a much better value for the price. MAYBE if frickin ipads would come down in price.

I don't see how they are charging $600-700 for tablets...

My Dad suggested an iPad but I already have a laptop for computing and an Xbox 360 for games. An iPad, for me, would be a huge waste of money, at almost any price.

I'd love to get a Kobo Touch.

I'm not sure what the Kobo is... but I will say that the Kindle app also works well on phones (free) ... as well as laptops (free). Not all the features are there as on the Kindle devices themselves... but I will admit they are nice.
