compatibility and older games

when i'm in game in rogue spear lobby my mouse cursor freezes for a couple seconds as i move it and when the game starts online everyone warpes only i get it. firewall was off. compatibility options dont help. is it cuz of my vid card? directx? win xp? help would be greatly appreciated!!!

i dont think its your video card.. u got geforce 6600 right.. so it sould be fine.. ?????/ i dont know whats wrong

Rogue spear is a fairly old game.... I know Rainbow 6 (original) has to be emulated in Windows to be in a win 95-98 setting.

Have you tried right clicking the EXE and running it in win 98 mode?
That would be... right click the .exe, click the compatibility tab, click the check box next to: "run this program....."
and select win 98 from the drop down box. Apply, and hit ok.

thx for the comments. ya i've tried all the compatibility options doesnt work at all. i ran into a couple guys with the same problem but they didnt know what was going on either, any other suggestions? lol my older comp didnt lag as bad as my new one lol, this sucks.

yeup graphic settings dont help same junk happens man, maybe my new comps just too good for it lol which would suck cuz RS is my favorite oldschool game. i dont know man im at a loss, any other suggestions? somethings bound to work. thx

do you have any other problems? Any other games that have problems?

What region is your RS?
Is it an original? IE not burnt...

Is it the original edition? platinum..etc?

Have you tried the lowest graphics and sound settings?

i tried red alert2 and that worked fine, ya i've tried adjusting the graphics settings, sound settings, the game isnt the original one but it worked on my old comp so i can't see why it wouldn't on my new one, some ppl said that my video card might just be too good, i dont know maybe i'm just screwed.

hmmm actually i remembered trying unreal tournament(another old game) and that was warpy as well so i dont know

I am honestly not sure here....

Do you get any errors while starting up your game, your PC? the game?

Do you have AGP Fast Write on or off for the graphics card?

Do you have any other problems that go on with your PC?

mmm a couple times during rogue spear the game would cut out and and there would be a box that said something like rogue spear has performed an illegal operation and has to shut down or somethin like that. a few times during counter strike all the sudden my comp would restart. i've gotten a win32 services problem a few times. i'm beginning to think that it's not my video card because in RSConfig you can select what video card you want to use and i tried the software renderer and the lag still happened.
 
This is why some people say compatibility doesn’t work for the older games “if the game makes a direct call to the Hardware then the compatibility won't help since it's not going through the OS. The Windows bible says that you're not supposed to make direct calls to the hardware but that didn't stop a lot of game programmers doing it to get a little more efficiency out of the slower hardware of the time. These days with DirectX and power to spare it isn't an issue but those old games require those calls and sadly, XP makes it impossible. After all if you can directly call the PCs hardware, bypassing the OS entirely, then all the OS's security features go out of the window” IS THERE ANYWAY AROUND THIS!!!!
 
try using the program compatability wizard.....im not sure where its located (possibly control panel) but search for it on your PC and try using it to play older games

you said you have XP right?
