Attack of the Clones: The Retro Duo (NES/SNES 2 in 1 Systems)

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
A few weeks back, I have stumbled upon another oddball system. I thought I have seen them all. Except for this one is one of the finest so far.

It is called "The Retro Duo" comes in a white/blue or black/red finish

Why is this one so unique? It actually contains the real SNES chip. The other clone, called "FC Twin" does not, since it's primarily an emulated chip device. FC Twin pictured below:

FC Twin cannot, repeat, cannot play these following NES and SNES games:
Super Mario RPG
Star Fox
Stunt Race FX
CastleVania 3: Dracula's Curse
Street Fighter Alpha 2 SNES
and any game that uses the Super FX2 chip (that was in Yoshi's Island and Star Fox)

Retro Duo:
YES I can! it proudly says! However, Super Mario RPG is so far the only problem, because Nintendo made 3 versions of this cartridge: Version 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3. So far, only 1.1 version of Super Mario RPG plays flawlessly!

Price of FC Twin and Retro Duo? Exact same price! $55-60 range

Now what else can Retro Duo do, that FC Twin can't? You can use the GameGenie for NES and SNES!

Bigger advantage, the SNES side of the system can use S-Video...which is the FIRST SNES clone to ever do this! However, the NES side of the system can only be used in AV signal only, since S-Video wasn't big yet during it's time.

Now, the minor problem: The AC Power Plug has only a 3 1/2 feet long cord. No biggie, unless you set the system far away from your TV.

Don't like the controllers? Don't worry! You can use offical SNES controllers on this badboy!

Plus, BlueVoodu has lots of lovely NES and SNES cartridges for sale at his store!

WAIT! There's more!

You're asking yourself, "What Mega? How much more do you have to tell me?"

The SNES Part of the system is FULLY COMPATIBLE with JAPANESE, AMERICAN, AND EUROPEAN Super NES games! NO CONVERTER NEEDED!!!! No messy step-down voltage junk! no worries about Hertz! The Retro Duo takes care of it all!

Where can you find one? Ebay easily, ignore the other clones. This is one of the sweetest clones I've seen, that even surpasses the Gen-X and FC Twin!

:lol I still say Nintendo should have marketed the 3 in 1 device I wrote to them about... but they didn't (of course)

It would have played N64, snes, and nes games :)

†B†V† :hat

But how do I go about figuring out the version number for SMRPG?

I would like to order one of these and play it again. Also, any differences between the different versions?

Nothing at all Creepin, just the actual Super Mario RPG chip inside is different. Nintendo did this to block out cheaters using GameGenies and such. Pretty famous trend they did with N64 games and GameCube games. There's actually 3 version of Super Smash Bros. Melee when you use an Action Replay disc.
