Hi People!

How much attention do you give to the people who have their own TV shows in which they review and evaluate video games? As far as I'm concerned, they're certainly entitled, personally I'd rather decide for myself. One person could argue that these shows, magazines,or whatever are useful in deciding about buying a game before you try it out only to find that it sucks, and having an incredibly tough time getting a refund or exchange for a different after you've already opened it!

In all fairness,I guess they're useful in that respect, but once again, our beloved Internet comes to the rescue offering all kinds of similar if not more credible free help. What's your feeling on this issue?

God Bless,

Internet killed the TV Star! Internet killed the Magazine Star!

As corny as that sounds, it's true.

Internet killed their usefulness. I only ever got OXM for the demo disk, and I can get those demos earlier on XBL anyways now. Sometimes they are interesting to read, but its funny seeing a magazine with BREAKING NEWS ON THE NEW GAME COMING OUT only to find out that info was released 3 weeks ago online.

I wish they were a dying breed. I hate what X-Play has become. I long for the good old days of Tech Tv and the Screensavers!!!

I'm with you there. I only watch G4 anymore because I'm kinda getting into Lost now and it has Heroes and Adam Sesslar.

Amen. Screensavers was, as they say in latin, "the shizzle, fo rizzle."

But yeah, what Mega said. I enjoy the novelty of magazines, in the same way I enjoy owning books, but there's no point in buying one for news. I think gamer culture could find a spot on TV. Old school X-play was definitely entertaining, if not informative. The problem with the new X-play is they are trying to combine internet forums with a TV show. If I'm watching TV, I don't care what "GamesGalore2281" thinks the next Bungie game should be.

G4 should be focused on trying to provide something for gamers the internet can't, instead they're showing why gamers are drawn to the internet instead of mainstream TV.

Agreed. The old X-Play was fantastic. Now they're trying to give me all the information I already have at my fingertips. Don't even get me started on the abomination that G4 morphed the Screen Savers into either....

Seriously. That's the reason why I subscribe to Tekzilla and the TWiT podcasts. It's all the people who made TechTV what it was and now it's free and I don't need cable. Revision3 is the new Tech TV.

Magazines are easy to stack on the back of the toilet though. PCs are not. Then again, neither are TVs. :lol

Personally, I hate watching TV. So that means no cable in this house. If I can't get news from a magazine, then I'll hit the net.

I used to like the magazines. I still have some from 1999. Mostly buyer guides from that year onward. Wished now that I had kept all the magazines in-between just to reread the nostalgia of information. The internet is what killed the magazines for me also. There are those times that I do crave the hard copy of a mag so that I can just sit back and thumb through like I used to. Miss those days I guess mainly because of the wait and wonder of what was going to be in the next issue. That build of excitement has been numbed by the instant info of the net. :(

Never got into any TV game news show. Don't watch TV that much.
